Kanki/Ghens (Gujarati Rice Porridge)

A Gujarati recipe for rice porridge. Quick, easy, and useful when you have stomach problems


  • 1.5 cups rice (thicker rice works better for porridge)
  • 6.5 cups water
  • 2 cups yogurt
  • salt
  • ground cumin
  • green chilli

How to make

  1. Put 1.5 cups of rice, 2.5 cups of water, and salt (to your taste) in a rice cooker and cook
  2. Mix 2 cups of yogurt, 4 cups of water, and the cooked rice in a pan
  3. Add salt, green chillies, and salt to taste
  4. Keep stirring on Low-Medium heat to the desired consistency is achieved Heat for less if you want it to be more soupy
