Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup tuvar dal or pigeon pea lentils
- 6 cups water
- 1 tsp green-chilli paste
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp red-chilli or cayenne powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander-cumin powder
- 1 1/2 - 2 tbsp jaggery
- 1-2 tsp salt
- 1-2 tsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 2-3 small dried red chillis
- 3-4 cloves
- 1-in cinnamon
- 8-10 curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp hing (asafoetida)
- 1/4 tsp fenugreek (methi) seeds
- 1/4 tsp fennel seeds
How to make
- Add 3/4 cup washed tuvar dal (pigeon pea lentil) and 2.5 cups of water in InstantPot and put it on high pressure-cook for 12 mins
- Mash the lentils with the spices and simmer on low heat for 7-8 mins
- 1 tsp green chilli paste
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder or cayenne powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin-coriander
- 1 1/2 - 2 tbsp jaggery
- 2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- Next is tempering, heat 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter) with 2-3 small dried red chillis, and 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- Once you hear the crackle, add the remaining spices
- 3-4 cloves
- 1-in cinnamon
- 8-10 curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp hing
- 1/4 tsp fenugreek (methi) seeds
- 1/4 tsp fennel seeds
- Add it to the dal mixture and serve
